Dr ASM Shihavuddin, currently working as an Associate Professor in the CSE department of IUB. He is renowned for his contributions in the fields of Computer Vision and Deep Learning. In 2017, he published his work on the optimum 2D projection of 3D microscopic data in Nature Communications, also the same year his contributions to analyzing ciliogenesis were published in Science. In 2018, he published another nature paper by successfully discovering cilia beating properties. Neuron, Development, Remote Sensing, and Energies are among other top journals where his novel contributions in image processing and machine learning fields are already being published over the years. In fact, he has 50+ research articles in reputed international journals and international conferences with 850+ citations (15 H index and 22 i10 indexes).

Teaching Philosophy

I believe that a classroom should be a place to imagine, get involved, and generate interest in the subject matter. I always try to make my classroom either virtual or physical a joyful place where students feel encouraged to open their minds and experience the excitement of learning something new. I believe every student is unique and they may learn in different ways. My task as a teacher is to facilitate them in being interested in learning, showing them the way to gather knowledge of the subject matter, and creating a lifelong learning mindset. Throughout my academic career, I have evolved as a teacher and my priorities changed. I believe that is how it should be, and it is also being part of and being adapted to the fastest-changing world that we live in. Creating a happy classroom with an active learning environment is my current priority to become an effective teacher.
